12 Tips to Make Your TikTok Video Go Viral
Everyone from crafters and makeup artists to home cooks and pet owners have joined the TikTok bandwagon to reach their audience. Thanks to the platform, more people from all over the world are gaining viral success today, this includes TikTok for business.
But the increasing popularity of this social media channel has led to a sudden spurt in competition. This means you have to be truly unique to stand out from the rest and produce trending videos.
Wondering how to go viral on Tiktok? Here are some tips that can help.
1. Limit Your Video Length Video
Digital consumers today have very limited attention spans. Eight seconds, to be exact. TikTok has successfully capitalized on this trend. The average watch time for videos on the platform is 15 seconds. So, the shorter your TikTok videos the better. This can be a challenge when you start using the platform, but as you produce content try to share your message in a few seconds.
2. Promote Content on Other Social Media Platforms
Thanks to TikTok’s huge popularity, the trend of short videos has caught on all over social media. Today, Facebook, Instagram and even YouTube are promoting short video content. By cross-promoting your TikTok video content on other social media channels you can increase your reach and improve your chances of going viral.
3. Post Regularly
If you want to go viral on TikTok, you need to post frequently. Successful TikTokers use this social media platform consistently to create and share quality video content. That’s because the TikTok algorithm favors content creators who can bring traffic to the site.
You don’t have to post new content every hour. Just try to maintain a schedule so users can find your content and have reasons to check new videos you post.
4. Keep Up with the Latest Trends
TikTok is by and large a trend driven tool. So, it’s extremely important to understand the trends. The way TikTok algorithm works makes it easy for users to follow and leverage trends.
You should check out TikTok’s Discover page where you will be able to see trending videos in your niche. This can include anything from trending music, trending song, trending audio, trending sounds or trending cooking videos. This will help you spot the new trend and use it for your content.
5. Use Relevant Hashtags
Hashtags help videos improve their rankings. That’s why, it’s important to avoid generic hashtags and use relevant ones that can boost your video’s visibility. If you’re trying to decode how to go viral on TikTok, a detailed hashtag analysis will be on top of your agenda.
6. Encourage Interaction
Like any other social networking site, TikTok provides a platform for not just content creation but also interaction. This is especially important when you are trying to gain followers. Try to respond to the comments you receive on your videos.
You can also provide a prompt to allow users to Stitch or Duet a response video to boost interaction.
7. Collaborate with Other Content Creators
A simple yet effective way to expand your base and reach target audience is by collaborating with existing popular accounts. You can start by liking and commenting on videos posted by influencers who are part of the same niche. Engage with these popular accounts and explore opportunities to co-create content that can boost your profile.
8. Leverage the Duet Feature
The duet feature lets you create videos that respond to other users’ content. This video side by side feature is unique to TikTok. As a content producer, you can also encourage users to reply to your videos by enabling the feature option.
9. Focus on Storytelling
You may have all the tools to create great videos and yet your content may not get popular because of poor storytelling. Users will keep coming back for your videos as long as you have a compelling story to tell. And you can break down the story in different parts or videos. For example, if you want to show difficult Yoga poses, you can create a couple of videos each capturing a new pose to engage your audience.
10. Add Compelling CTAs
If you don’t want to be a one viral wonder, you need to make sure TikTok users keep coming back to your account. That’s why, it’s important to add strong CTAs that can excite viewers and prompt them to look for your next video. Something as simple as Follow me for daily tips can be highly effective in engaging the audience.
11. Find the Right Time to Post Content
Posting content at the right time is another way to ensure your video gets attention. But what’s the right time to post content? That depends on your audience and the time they most actively watch videos on TikTok. For example, if your larger audience has a day job and uses TikTok after work, you may benefit from publishing your videos in the evening.
There are social media scheduling tools that can help you plan your posts in advance.
12. Use Your Own Audio
Your own audio can help you connect more closely with your followers. This is also smart because TikTok algorithms pick up on words, which can boost your video ranking on the app.

When including same audio, include your own spin to make your videos more interesting. For this, you can use humor and wit to get your message across.
12. Make it so that some parts of the video need to be rewatched
While this might seem counterintuitive, there are benefits to having a video where some parts are too fast for someone to read, watch, or understand on the first viewing. For example, if the text is too fast to read, someone will likely rewatch the video to re-read the text, and maybe pause at that point. When they do this, they’re spending more time on your video and signaling to the algorithm that it’s a better video, which will in turn get TikTok to show it to more people.
9) Khaby Lames How to open a car door video – 350 million views
Khaby Lame's highest entry on the most viewed TikTok list is this hilarious roasting of a 'mirror hack' that helps people in the back seat see if there's a car driving past before they open the door. The solution? Just look out the window, babes.
6. There may be a delay
Don’t be too disappointed if your video doesn’t do well in the first few days.
Sometimes the algorithm comes back to a post you made weeks ago and gives it a viral bump.
How To Get Yourself On The For You Page Of TikTok?
Your videos must go viral and get a significant number of likes, shares, and comments to get on TikTok’s For You Page.
However, you can also get on the For You Page of a specific community if you create content that the specific community loves.
TikTok’s algorithm is the same as any other social media platform, and it shows relevant content to relevant people.
Suppose your profile is filled with content related to poetry.
There are high chances you will be on the For You Page of someone who loves poetry.
How often should I post on TikTok?
TikTok. For TikTok, we recommend around 1-3 times a day if you’re building your following. Some bigger TikTokkers will post up to 10 times a day, but this may be a little much when starting out. If you’re more established on the platform, try posting a couple within a day.
Go viral on TikTok: Consider your sound
Before this video went viral, I had never considered how important sound is on TikTok. While I knew that TikTok relies heavily on viral sounds, I didn’t know how I could wield that for myself. I designed my audio to sound pleasant, but didn’t put any other thought into it.
However, I believe that one of the reasons my video was so popular was because of its sound. The quote that I used is one of the best known quotes from Wuthering Heights. This meant that those who knew the book would instantly recognize it, which increases the chance of engagement.
I didn’t just use a voiceover though – I also used a popular audio of a slowed down version of ‘Another Love’ by Tom Odell from the TikTok account @creepyslowedaudios. Using a trending audio can help increase the possibility of getting onto the #ForYou page.
One of my earliest comments asked if I could make this video into a sound (this is done by downloading your finished video from TikTok and re-uploading it). This meant that other users could use my sound for their own videos, which is essentially free advertisement for my original video and account. At the time of writing, there are currently 25 video that are using my original sound. If you can create a sound that other users will want to incorporate into their own videos, then this might help boost your chances of success.
How Many Views Is “Viral” On TikTok
Basically, ‘Viral’ in the TikTok context can be subdivided into three categories:
- Entry-level viral: If your TikTok video gets at between 100,000 to 250,000 views
- Medium-level viral: If your TikTok video gets between 500,000 to 1,000,000 views
- Pro-level viral: If your TikTok video gets anything above a million (1,000,000) views
Depending on the topic or niche, your video can even get more views over a longer period, which will make the videos fall into the ‘ultra-level viral’ category. This is common to celebrity TikTok videos. Also, something going viral will be niche-specific. Some videos may have less than 250k views but would be termed Pro-level viral in some niches, say finance.
In most cases, a viral TikTok video is usually addressing a specific situation or is a product of a well-planned idea. That is why it was highlighted earlier that “making your videos go viral is also a skill that can be learned”.
For your videos to go viral on TikTok, they must get a lot of ‘shares’ because this projects your videos to a larger audience. That is why you should make your TikTok videos as engaging as possible to stir and retain people’s attention.
As a beginner, target around 400 views and 100 likes within 30 minutes of posting your TikTok video. Anything less than that may mean that your TikTok video has fallen short of going viral.
- If 400 views = 30 minutes,
- 800 views= 1 hour
- 1200 views= 1 hour and 30 mins
- 1600 views= 2 hours
This way, you get a little less than 10,000 views within 24 hours. This often suggests that your TikTok videos are on their way to becoming viral.

What happens if you get 1 million views on TikTok?
If you’re in the Tik Tok Creator Fund, for creators with at least 10,000 followers and meeting other requirements, you can join Tik Tok’s Creator Fund which pays you based on the views of your videos. So that means a 1,000,000-viewed video would earn you between $20 and $40.
3. Your video views come in waves
Once you post, the algorithm shows your video to a small group of people. If it does well there, it shows it to progressively larger groups of people.
5) Bella Poarchs M To The B video – 683.6 million views
Despite being TikTok's most liked video ever with 56.3 million likes (at time of last update), Bella's 'M To The B' video only ranks at number 5 on the most viewed list. Still, not bad for a video that was posted in August 2020 and only features someone bopping their head the viral Millie B track. Not bad at all.
16. Post frequently
At the end of the day, going viral on TikTok is a numbers game. The more often you post, the more likely you are to have a video go viral. Don’t skimp on quality, but if you push yourself to consistently push out videos, not only will your videos probably get better, but you’ll be more likely to have one of them go viral on TikTok.
How to Tell If You’re Shadowbanned
If you want to get more views on your TikTok account and get paid, being shadow-banned can cause problems. Luckily, some signs can help tell you when your account has been shadowbanned, including the following.
- When your TikTok account is shadowbanned, any video and content you create will not be available in searches.
- Your account will not be able to receive new followers.
- The videos or content you do will not be available on the “For You” page.
- Your content will not be able to receive engagements such as likes and comments.
- The shadowban will also reduce traffic to your page.
How Long Does a Shadowban Last?
Shadowban on a TikTok account lasts for two weeks. Unfortunately, TikTok does not tell you directly when your account has been shadowbanned. This r is why you should monitor the growth of your account well. If you notice a decrease in your otherwise regular engagements, you should try out solutions to lift the shadowban from your account.
How To Lift The Shadowban From Your Account
Here are ways to lift the shadowban from your account.
- Try to uninstall and then reinstall your TikTok App. This would fix any glitches from bots and update your app.
- Make sure you delete any content on your page that’s against TikTok policies.
- You can also switch to a Pro account. This would enable you to access your account analytics, such as page visits, likes, comments, etc. With this information, you would be able to detect when your account is shadow-banned.
- Clear the app’s cache and leave TikTok for some days. This should help in resetting your account back to normal.
How Long Does Tiktok Suspend Your Account?
For a minor offense, TikTok suspends your account for 24 hours. However, for significant wrongdoing, you’re greeted with a notice that you have been suspended when you log in, and that goes on for seven days or more. During that period, you can’t see your username or other details. If the suspension goes past seven days, you might not be able to get your account back.
What hashtags go viral on TikTok?
Now that you know how to create a buzz, let’s look at what hashtags to use on TikTok to go viral.
You can connect with the most popular hashtags on Tik Tok by checking in with populartiktokhashtags and using them to promote your content.
But, it’s also worth noting that many of the most popular or well-paid TikTok stars sometimes use the hashtags of trending movies or trending TV shows to expand their reach, even if it’s not directly related to their content.
Also, if you’ve created a video that is directly related to your niche and truly aimed at your audience, it’s likely that TikTok’s algorithm will pick it up and deliver it to the right people. This is why you often see popular content with terms like this video found for a reason; as you can see, no hashtags, etc. included within their descriptions.
The bottom line is that using relevant hashtags will certainly help your content reach the right people and expand its reach, but there is no substitute for hopping on trends in an original way or knowing your audience. If you know the best times to post content on TikTok, that will also help to drive more engagement.
