The Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss will target customers who wish to drive boldly in challenging conditions and thus need greater off-roading capabilities. It features a black front panel (instead of a body-colored front panel, so that scratches and chips on the trail are handled well) with a Trail Boss badge, red tow hooks, a non-backlit, black Chevrolet logo, off-road tires, eight-double-spoke black alloy wheels, and gloss black mirrors.
It’s clearly evident in the multimedia GM has released so far that the Trail Boss variant of the Chevrolet Silverado EV has a noticeably higher ground clearance than the Work Truck and RST variants. For customers who regularly drive on demanding terrains, be it for work, sporting events or leisure, the Trail Boss variant would be the most suitable choice in the Silverado EV range. It may feature an adaptive air suspension that allows raising or lowering the pickup up to two inches, and an axle that offers locking differential effect.
Like the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, the Chevrolet Silverado EV will be available with a 24-module Ultium battery pack optionally. While GM hasn’t confirmed the availability of this highest-capacity battery pack option in the Trail Boss variant, charging infrastructure is a rarity on the trail, and GM would do well to offer it with a large battery. The company expects select Silverado EV configurations to have a range of more than 400 miles.

What to expect with the Silverado EV Trail Boss
We haven’t seen much about the 2024 Chevy Silverado Trail Boss EV yet, but we caught a glimpse of it. The Trail Boss has a revised lower bumper with tow hooks and more grille space. This is probably to help the truck draw in more air to enhance the ability to cool powertrain components.
The gasoline-powered Silverado Trail Boss is in the middle of the pack for off-roading. It does have a locking rear differential, a heavy-duty suspension, and all-terrain tires, though. The Silverado EV Trail Boss might be better equipped by borrowing features from the GMC Hummer EV.
It’s safe to expect a lifted suspension, air springs, locking differentials, the Hummer EV’s unique crabwalk feature. We’ve seen a teaser about the Silverado EV’s four-wheel steering mode that could be similar.
The Rivian R1T has uses a semi-active loading-leveling air hydraulic hybrid system. It can raise the R1T to have about 15 inches of ground clearance. We’re not sure how tall the Silverado EV Trail Boss will be yet, but the Hummer EV has a maximum ground clearance of 15.9 inches.
While the Rivian R1T doesn’t have traditional off-roading modes such as hill descent control, setting the brakes in regen mode helps to control its speed. The GMC Hummer EV has a Terrain Mode that offers one-pedal driving.
2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV Horsepower
This electric pickup truck packs plenty of power and delivers up to 664 horsepower, allowing you to have more than enough speed. 510 horsepower is delivered from the base WT trim. Each trim comes with a four-wheel steering system and an all-wheel drive. This model is equipped with 24-inch wheels. Those who select the Trail Boss model can enjoy the all-terrain tires and locking differentials, which come standard.
Next comes the RST in the fall of 2023. It serves as the range-topping model, featuring extras such as four-wheel steering, adjustable suspension, and the reborn midgate concept in its Multi-Flex bed. This pass-thru from the bed to the cab allows the 5-foot 11-inch bed to offer a load floor of over 9 feet with the tailgate up, or nearly 11 feet when used with the Multi-Flex tailgate. It also benefits from Super Cruise, standard-issue 400-mile range, and it gets Chevrolet’s Wide Open Watts (WOW) mode for 0-60 mph sprints under 4.5 seconds. 664 hp (495 kW) and all-wheel drive help make that happen.
Here’s where the mystery really starts. Chevrolet didn’t offer any information on a Silverado EV Trail Boss during the debut, except to say that it’s coming. A single photo (at the top of this article) shows a properly beefy pickup wearing aggressive off-road tires, riding high off the ground. The front fascia is gray, similar to the WT versus body color on the RST. If it sticks to a similar hierarchy found in the standard Silverado lineup, a starting price in the $50,000 to $60,000 range seems likely. Then again, the RST slots below Trail Boss in the standard Silverado lineup.
